We seek outstanding candidates able to contribute and expand on one of the following themes:
● Crime, policing, or forensic medicine in Britain and Ireland from C17th to C20th (Katherine Watson)
● Intimate relationships, bodies, emotions, and material culture (Joanne Begiato)
● Race and eugenics, including eugenics and reproductive justice; eugenics and disability, and anti-traveller Roma/Traveller racism (Marius Turda)
● Modern British environmental history (1850 - onwards) and the governance of material resources and/or pollution (Tom Crook)
● Religion and belief (Andrew Spicer)
● Art and visual culture (Elizabeth Darling)

Entry requirements
We are looking to recruit a candidate capable of submitting their thesis within three years. Applicants should have completed a relevant Masters degree prior to the Studentship start date. This means that you will need to have completed the taught element and submitted your dissertation. If the Masters has been finished this year but the degree has not yet been awarded by the time an offer is made, the offer will be conditional.
The Studentship holder may also be required to complete supplementary research methods training in their first year of study.
English language requirements
Applicants should also be able to demonstrate strong research capabilities and be fluent in spoken and written English.
Applicants whose main language is not English must meet the Faculty’s English language requirements. The minimum IELTS score required for entry to the research degree programme is 6.5–7 overall. Additionally, we require a minimum of 6.5 in each component of the test. We do not accept IELTS certificates more than two years old. We are not required to test the English language ability of applicants who have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree which was taught in English.
