Introduction
This programme is a recognised higher education qualification in health, care and education of children and young people. We provide a programme of progressive studies relevant to careers in the primary functions of care within the health, care and education of children and young people that enhance your ability to exercise investigative, reflective analytical and reasoning powers in context.
On this programme you will learn to understand the theories relating to the development and wellbeing of children and young people, and to apply theoretical knowledge of development and wellbeing to enhance work with children and young people.
You will develop awareness and appreciation of contemporary challenges relevant to the discipline facing individuals, organisations, communities and society, from a local, national and global perspective. You will raise awareness and appreciation of the role Public Health plays in responding to contemporary issues affecting the health and well-being of communities and populations.
We will focus on developing your independent study and life-long learning skills. This will give you a foundation for successful completion of your degree programme, support your future employment opportunities and build the skills and competencies necessary for career resilience and professional development in the future work context.
We also offer all modules through the medium of Welsh.

All of our programmes are offered FULL or PART-TIME.
We also offer two options for study over TWO or THREE YEARS – this depends on your own current level of qualifications and employment experience (see entry criteria below). Please note that successful completion of a TWO YEAR programme leads to an unconditional one year ‘top up’ year of study in order for you to gain your BSc.

Overview
This course is not only an excellent starting point for those unsure of their employment goals within the children and young person health and care sector, but can open doors in employment which last throughout your career. It offers a wide range of skills and knowledge in areas including education, psychology, research and health and wellbeing children.
The Health Portfolio programmes are purposely integrated to allow flexible entry and exit between pathways and courses. At the end of each year, you are able to progress onto a different programme if your career choices or employment opportunities change.
Previous students have used this degree to gain entry into positions within the public, private and third sectors. Previous students have also used this course as a platform for further study in children’s health, social work, psychology and teaching.
We offer access to current key organisations and people within the health sector. We also provide a high level of academic support across the whole university to help strengthen your academic skills.

Entry Criteria
Please note that every applicant is considered individually. We may also make offers based solely upon your life or work experience.
For applicants wishing to study the Diploma HE (two year) qualification, an offer will be made based upon your educational and employment experience.
For those wishing to study the BSc (three years) you will need to have obtained a minimum of 88 UCAS points.

Assessment
Assessments include: essays, exams, reports, presentations, reflective blogs and professional portfolios.
You will be asked to utilise information technology communication and organisational skills for your assignments.
Career Opportunities
We have a very strong employment support and work experience system within the Health Portfolio.
We link and work closely with public, private and third sector organisations and groups to provide opportunities for both paid and unpaid work for students.
We particularly welcome applicants already working with children and/or young people in some capacity.
Please note that this course does not take the place of the CCLD Level 3 qualification. If your job role or career requires this qualification we recommend you undertake it separately.
