Introduction

This course is for anyone with work experience in health and care who needs to gain formal qualifications in order to progress. If you have the drive and passion to advance in the health and care sector by succeeding in University then this course is for you.

Our unique portfolio of programmes are designed to offer flexible learning for flexible lives. They work around you and your work and care commitments. All of our courses are also available as part-time options. We offer a high level of support and a student-centred focus to ensure you can thrive in a higher education environment. We also offer modules through the medium of Welsh.

The January intake is based upon student numbers only. The six modules run between January and August to ensure graduates can begin study on a Health Portfolio degree of their choosing the following September.

Overview

This unique programme is designed as a ‘feeder’ into any one of the Health Portfolio degree programmes. It could also gain you entry onto degrees within the wider UWTSD offering. We will support and develop your knowledge and ability in the core concepts, theories and underpinning knowledge of health and social care, as well as upskill you in the skills and academic rigour needed to achieve in higher education.

The CertHE Care is offered as a ONE YEAR flexible route qualification. This means you are able to pass this course then begin the first year of the HND, FdSc, BSc or DipHE of your choice (either in Health and Social Care, Health Management, Health and Care of Children and Young People or Nursing).

The Health Portfolio programmes are purposely integrated to allow flexible entry and exit between pathways and courses. At the end of each year you are able to progress onto a different programme if your career choices or employment opportunities change.

We also provide a high level of academic support across the whole university to help strengthen your academic skills.

Year One – Level 3 (Cert HE)

• Care in Communication (20 credits; compulsory).

Year One – Level 4 (Cert HE)

• Developing Skills for Employment (20 credits; compulsory)
• Introduction to Health, Care and Education (20 credits; compulsory)
• Preparing for Research (20 credits; compulsory)
• Preparing for Success in Higher Education (20 credits; compulsory)
• Problem Solving in Health and Care (20 credits; compulsory).

Due to the nature of the course we can consider applicants no matter what your academic background, employment experience or support need.

The decision is based upon your current employment role or previous work and life experience, as well as your educational goals and career aspirations.

Your application and offer may be subject to interview and written test.

Assessment

Assessments include: essays, reports, presentations, and professional portfolios.

You will be supported to utilise information technology communication and organisational skills for your assignments.
