Introduction
Our Adventure Filmmaking degree is the only programme of its kind in the UK and strikes a unique balance between outdoor activities and media creation based in a location that can support and offer ample opportunities. Experts from the industry are engaged in the programme delivery to ensure students are fully focused on the requirements of future employers and their current professional practice.
This programme will enable you to engage independently with external clients, agencies and organisations, in the production of film and media content in the area of Adventure Filmmaking.
Develop a range of skills that will make you ready to enter a contemporary workforce and prepare you to be flexible in the application of your media production skills to a broad range of industries and organisations as a creative service. Several modules provide opportunities to connect with the industry, including Canolfan S4C Yr Egin and its tenants, as well as UK partners such as OM-Digital, Panasonic Lumix and Ironman. The programme shares much of the industry-facing and collaborative ethos of the Digital Media Production, Acting, Theatre, Design and Production programmes within the cluster. Staff, resources, and facilities will be shared across the programmes.

Overview
The Adventure Filmmaking programme is unique in the UK, utilising the landscapes of West Wales, and the wide range of outdoor pursuits that take place in the region. There are fantastic opportunities to capture footage of extreme sports, sea life and wildlife, coastal and mountainous terrains, with input throughout the degree from professionals working in these fields.
Expeditions and field excursions are central to our degrees. They allow students to experience filming in a variety of locations and conditions and understand the different demands of filming in a range of environments. These expeditions can be part of your assessed degree work, but we encourage students to attend the many additional trips that will be laid on throughout the year, often accompanied by specialist filmmakers.
West Wales has a great range of terrains, from coastal cliffs and beaches to mountains, lakes and valleys. We also have regular trips to studios of major production companies, to give a real insight into working in industry. Students will also have the opportunity to experience work placements with these companies.
Students will be introduced to the core production and postproduction skills required to produce adventure-based film and media content. There will be a number of expeditions and projects, in addition to formal classes, which will allow students to experience working in a range of environments and areas.
These can range from extreme sports and motorsports to wildlife filming, landscape and coastal filming, and aerial filming. As students progress, they can specialise in the area of their choice; by the final year, students can work on an individual major project in their chosen field, with expert input from leading practitioners.
