Introduction
The whole purpose of this course is to develop employees in a shortage area of manufacturing operations.
This part-time programme has been designed alongside employers for key manufacturing requirements, both from a content and delivery perspective. On successful completion, all graduates will display knowledge and skills which will allow them to enhance and further their practice in order to shape the industry of the future.
PATHWAY OPTIONS
• Advanced Manufacturing Operations Part-Time (BEng) – 360 credits
• Advanced Manufacturing Operations, Part-time (HNC) – 120 credits
Why choose this course?
1. The programme shaped in partnership with Industry.
2. Part of the degree apprenticeship framework commissioned by the Welsh Government. Funding is available for employed prospective students.
3. Extended academic year to complete the HNC part-time in just one year and a half.
4. The Engineering Department has over twenty years of experience in delivering successful part-time Programmes.
5. Study on our state-of-the-art £300m Swansea Waterfront campus (SA1).
6. All part-time pathways within the Mechanical Engineering Portfolio are part of the degree apprenticeship framework and therefore funded by the Welsh Government rather than the student or employer.
Overview
The programme is designed to fit within the working week, so classes are scheduled on Friday afternoons in the new SA1 Waterfront Development. Being over an extended academic year, studying 42 weeks of the year means that students make the most of their time at work and University.
Our industry-focused curriculum aspires to produce engineering industry leaders of tomorrow.

Assessment
Students are taught through a series of lectures, tutorials, laboratories and practical sessions. Assessment of progress is made through assignments, exams and individual projects.
One of the main parts of the final year will be the final year project. This is a work-based project that will allow students to use the knowledge built up through the course to solve a genuine workplace-engineering problem.
Career Opportunities
The School of Engineering has provided very successful part-time BEng programmes for almost 20 years. The portfolio currently consists of three programmes – BEng Manufacturing Systems Engineering, BEng Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and BEng Materials Science.
One of the most notable effects on the employability of students on the school’s part-time BEng programmes is the marked career enhancement that has resulted. A high proportion of the students have been promoted at least once during their time on the programmes and often again on graduation.
