Overview
The programme is based on the exploration of education from the perspectives of history, philosophy, psychology and sociology, thereby offering you critical insights into key issues of how learning is organised and the factors that influence it. We also examine wider educational issues such as equality, diversity and inclusion as well as creative learning, alternatives to mainstream education and community engagement.
The programme will explore issues such as:
• Why do we have the education system we have in the UK now?
• What role does politics play in education?
• How do children and adults learn and how can I best support that?
• What do education systems look like around the world?
• What skills and knowledge do people need in the 21st century and why?

Entry Criteria
Typical offer for this programme is 88 UCAS points.
The Education Studies programme and associated pathway programmes are intended for A-level school leavers as well as those who have left education and now wish to return.
We also place great emphasis on supporting and encouraging non-standard entry student and actively welcome applications from those who have relevant life skills and experience as well as the academic potential to succeed with us.
During the first year of the course, we tailor our modules and assessments to actively support you in your integration into higher education study and work closely with Student Services to provide you with all the help you need to make the most of your studies.

Assessment
Students are assessed in a variety of ways to help develop both independent study skills as well as team-working capabilities. We do not assess using examinations but instead utilise a diverse range of methods such as portfolios, presentations, academic posters as well as a range of opportunities to engage in research-based activities.
