Introduction

Students on the programme will consider the challenges faced by those setting up and running a Community Sports Organisation.

Running a community sport organisation requires many focuses, including business management and finance experience, safeguarding, governance and a high level of organisational skills. Our programme will consider the role and objectives of sports organisations in the community, develop a plan for progression, increased participation and financial planning to include sustainable funding sources.

Our students are part of a community of students and staff where small group problem-based learning enables them to gain the skills required to creatively solve the problems of the future.

Assessment

The Developing Sustainable Enterprises (Community Sport) programme is assessed by a combination of innovative and more traditional methods which are designed to develop students’ understanding, problem solving and creative thinking during their year of study.

Assessments are closely linked to learning activities, where students build understanding and skills in weekly sessions, and are able to learn from formative assessment throughout the programme.

Career Opportunities

Our graduates progress to a range of areas within the public, private and voluntary sectors in areas such as sustainability leadership, financial management, marketing, community sports development, project management, community development and regeneration.

Graduates may use their new skills and experience to further develop their community sport organisation, this could include new focus, expansion or transformation.

An emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation within the programme has also meant that a number of our recent graduates have left to successfully set up their own enterprises and Carmarthen Business School is proactive in signposting students to internal and external support for business development.

Several of our graduates also choose to progress to further study at Undergraduate level, Masters and Doctoral level either within UWTSD or at other universities. At Carmarthen Business School we offer a range of postgraduate programmes and have a number of active Doctoral students.

Students who successfully complete this course can apply to ‘top up’ to the BA Rural Enterprise Management.
