Introduction
Society is increasingly sensitive to anthropogenic effects on the natural environment and the public perception is that we do not always weigh the benefits of activities against the associated environmental cost. Such themes are significant within environmental conservation and management.
The disciplines here help deal with many challenges facing our planet, country and locality which are central to the future of society.
PATHWAY OPTIONS
This course is usually available both full and part-time with intakes at the end of September. Full-time study one calendar year. Part-time study options typically take two years but students are given a maximum of five years to complete an MSc (180 credits).
Students can do a Postgraduate Diploma (PG Dip) by studying 120 credits
6 taught modules. Full-time over 8 months or part-time over 15 months.
Students can do a Postgraduate Certificate (PG Cert) by studying 60 credits.
3 taught modules. Part-time over 8 months.
Also, each module (20 credits) can be studied in a stand-alone capacity which students can incrementally build towards one of the above postgraduate qualifications.
The MSc involves the completion of a 60 credit dissertation in addition to the 120 credits of taught modules. The dissertation is supervised by a member of staff and can be completed via distance learning.

Overview
The MSc Environmental Conservation and Management has for many years offered programmes designed to develop and prepare students for a career in the environmental sector.
The University led the way by becoming the first university to offer an Environmental Conservation degree in 1998. There continues to be a societal and political demand for the sustainable management of our environment and natural resources.
This MSc programme will develop your abilities to address the competing needs of society, the economy and the environment in a practical and holistic way, supported by geographical and academic knowledge.
The programme is divided into two parts; you will complete a series of taught modules followed by an independent research-based dissertation in a subject area of your choice. The taught modules will provide you with the employer-focused legal, technical and managerial abilities, which are required in the sector.

Entry Criteria
A minimum of a 2.2 degree in any subject.
Applicants with other qualifications and relevant experience will be considered individually by the Programme Director via Accredited prior learning.
An IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent is required if English is not the first language.

We believe that course content should involve the combined consideration of academic and vocational intent for students to develop a skill and knowledge set which is fit for the workplace.
Hence, this MSc was designed with environmental managers and applies current ‘live’ assessments/events to keep the content responsive to the ever-changing needs of employers, their employees, and the ever-changing environmental agenda.
This teaching style involves, reports, projects, presentations, and help students develop their individual interests within the module's framework.
Also, the dissertation is developed by students in collaboration with the supervisory team, and it is believed it should be directly relevant to the student’s interests while still complying with the academic rigour of MSc research. Finally, the teaching team are completely student-centred and believe in facilitating students in achieving their environmental management ambitions.
