Introduction

UWTSD Swansea started the first Motorsport Engineering degree in 1998 and have developed an excellent reputation in the industry.

Studying a Masters in the field of Motorsport Engineering will enable you to develop the specific expertise required in the design, development, engineering and optimisation of competition vehicles.

The course has a good mix of theoretical and practical taught elements as well as excellent Motorsport specific project opportunities, Motorsport specific assignment work and modules which cover a wide range of Motorsport and Automotive related subjects while still enabling the student to tailor their study to their own needs and career aspirations.

Overview

As a natural development of the success of the Motorsport Engineering undergraduate programmes offered by UWTSD, the latest Masters programme aims to develop your understanding further, based upon the strong links between the University and the Industry.

The Motorsport degree schemes allow students the opportunity to experience the world of Motorsport engineering and development with a mix of applied and theoretical learning.

Grounded by mechanical engineering principles, students develop these themes with a particular focus on vehicle engineering and performance through applied examples and projects.

Students have gained employment with Motorsport and Automotive companies such as McLaren, Red Bull, Renualt F1, Mercedes AMG, Honda R&D, Ricardo, Mahle, JLR, MIRA and many others.

Entry Criteria

An honours degree of at 2:1 or above classification in an appropriate based discipline. The nature of the programme is such that candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds will be considered.

Equivalent qualifications

These will be considered for entry onto the programme. For example, an applicant with a good HND, together with at least five years relevant experience would be considered. The candidate would be expected to provide evidence to support his/her application.

Our offers are not solely based on academic results. We will take into account your skills, achievements and work experience. Evidence of personal professional and educational experience will be sought to provide indicators of the ability of an individual to satisfy the requirements of the programme.

Assessment

Assessment is undertaken in a wide range of formats from the traditional examination and coursework, to more ‘industrial’ based assessment methods such as track-side field work, workshop based tasks, computer software based assessments and oral examinations and group seminars.

The graduates from the Motorsport engineering pathways at UWTSD have gained employment in a wide range of engineering disciplines both inside and outside of the Motorsport Engineering Industry.
