Introduction
Energy and Environmental Engineering remains at the forefront of major research into future energy sources and carbon reduction technology. The real challenge is to reduce our environmental impact as humans without affecting our daily lives. Energy security is a key issue and there is a need to develop more sustainable sources of energy supply so we can reduce or eliminate harmful emissions from traditional fossil fuels.
Both the UK Government and Senedd Cymru (Welsh Parliament) have recognised that there is a significant need to develop engineers and managers in the area of energy and environmental technology who can rise to this challenge of continuing to develop this area of high-value manufacturing.
Our Energy and Environmental Engineering degree programme will help you to develop skills that are valuable to a wide range of employers, such as the ability to analyse complex information critically; the ability to present clear and coherent arguments and the capacity to present complex information in a clear manner.
Such an education will develop an awareness of the interconnectedness of environmental and sustainable issues and equip you with a qualification relevant to a number of different applied situations.
The following Bachelor's degree has been accredited as meeting the academic requirement, in part, for Chartered Engineer (CEng in Part) registration for the cohort intakes from 2015 up to and including 2023:
• BEng(Hons) Energy and Environmental Engineering (Full Time 3 Years; EngC)

Why choose this course?
1. Career prospectus for Energy and Environmental Engineers are very good, with demand for engineers in this sector currently very high. It is anticipated that across Europe, there is going to be a need for 1.5 million engineers in this field over the next five to ten years.
2. UWTSD provides a welcoming and supportive learning environment where students focus on real-world problem/applications. Students work in small groups to develop solutions to a range of problems enabling the development of teamwork, leadership, project management and concept development.
3. You will be given the opportunity to visit various organisations involved in electricity generation and production/use of environmental technologies, for example, Pembroke Power Station, Centre for Alternative Technology, National Grid, etc.
4. Your final year project provides the opportunity to specialise in a chosen area of your interest.
Overview
The Energy and Environmental Engineering programmes are intended to provide students with a thorough grounding in engineering principles and concepts and apply this to energy and environmental (E&E) problems.
There is a need for an E&E Engineer to develop novel and innovative solutions to help resolve current, as well as, future E&E problems.
Energy Engineering involves studying current forms of power generation as well as developing technologies in the field of power generation. These forms of energy need to be used efficiently so that we use less energy in the future while continuing to fulfil the needs of society.
Environmental Engineering is about continuing to reduce and eliminate the harmful impacts that man has on the environment. This involves looking at methods that can be used to control air, water and noise pollution while understanding the principles behind how pollution control technologies work.
In addition, students will develop knowledge in a suitable range of processes and materials. The programme will also consider environmental aspects of design and technology and will enable students to gain a range of skills relevant to a broad range of employment opportunities.
