Overview

This MSc programme delivers the theory and skills required to become proficient in advanced software engineering.

It also recognises the importance of software engineering in cloud-based computing and has been designed to meet industry needs in co-operation with several industrial partners.

The programme requires students to undertake many real-world tasks, deploying software technologies in the design and development of complex, scalable applications.

To reflect the growing demand for cloud-based applications and services, graduates of this programme will learn the latest skills in the development and deployment of cloud-based web services for large scale enterprise applications.

• Agile Development and Software DevOps (20 credits)
• Cloud Engineering Principles and Practice (20 credits)
• Data Security, Governance and Compliance (20 credits)
• Database Systems (20 credits)
• Object-Oriented Programming (20 credits)
• Research and Professional Development (20 credits)

Part 2:

• Master’s Project (60 credits)

Entry Criteria

Applicants require an Honours Degree (2.2 or above) or advanced qualification in Computer Science or cognate discipline from a UK University or recognised overseas institution or industrial experience in IT and an Honours Degree.

For International applicants, we ask that you hold an Academic IELTS test with a score of at least 6.0 (no element less than 5.5).

Assessment

Students' work is assessed through a combination of coursework, portfolio, lab-based practical exams and written examinations.

The final mark for some modules may include one or more pieces of assessment set and completed during the module.

A written report and oral presentation assess project work. Part 2 requires the student to research and prepare an individual project of a substantial nature.

University students who are unable to complete all aspects of Part 1 may be eligible for a Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits) or Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits).

Career Opportunities

Students on this programme develop a broad range of technical skills and will study several topics related to information systems.
