Introduction
The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with a depth and breadth of knowledge and understanding of people practice and management in order to lead at a strategic and operational level in their organisations. It is suitable for individuals in a people practice or management role who wish to shape people practice and create value for their organisations.
The PG Diploma and MA are accredited by the CIPD and students who complete the PG Diploma (part 1 of the MA) will achieve level 7 Associate status with the CIPD.

Overview
Although the University has offered the Postgraduate and MA in HRM for a significant period of time, the qualifications have been updated for September 2021 in line with new CIPD requirements.
Both the PG Diploma and MA offer students the opportunity to engage in discussion with fellow students from all over South Wales and from a variety of organisations on topics of strategic relevance to people management. Modules are facilitated by lecturers with substantial experience in the field, including qualified employment law solicitors. Each module has been designed to directly align with the CIPD Profession Map and so provides students will all the underpinning core knowledge and behaviours required to successfully lead and manage people practice in modern organisations.
The first two years of each programme (PG Diploma and MA) are the same. All students are required to complete 8 compulsory modules (part 1 of the MA). At the end of the two years students complete a 15,000 word dissertation to achieve the full MA.
The qualification is suitable for:
• Those aspiring to or already occupying a strategic people management role
• Those who wish to gain a depth and breadth of knowledge to lead people practice and add value to their organisations
Modules
The following modules will be studied over three years. These modules have been mapped to the CIPD core knowledge standards which are based on the CIPD’s new Profession Map.
Part I (PGDip & MA)
• Advanced Application of Employment Law (15 credits; component pass)
• Driving Change and Building Business Cases (15 credits; component pass)
• Driving Performance (15 credits; component pass)
• Driving your Development (15 credits; component pass)
• Resourcing and Talent Management (15 credits; component pass)
• Shaping Cultures and Behaviours (15 credits; component pass)
• Supporting Learning (15 credits; component pass)
• Understanding the Business Context (15 credits; component pass).
Part II (MA)
• Research Dissertation (60 credits; compulsory).
Entry Criteria
Applicants should normally hold one or more of the following:
1. An honours degree or postgraduate qualification eg. BA, MSc
2. A relevant professional qualification eg. CIPD Intermediate qualification, ILM, CIM
3. Applicants who do not meet the above criteria may be admitted to the course provided their professional or managerial experience is deemed to be appropriate.

1. INTERNAL ENGLISH TEST if you don't have an English accredited certificate
2. Academic Interview
Assessment
There are no exams. Assessment will be via reports, academic posters, portfolios, practical demonstrations, short presentations, the creation of learning resources for managers and a 15,000 word dissertation.
Career Opportunities
The qualification will enable students to apply for positions requiring level 7 CIPD status and subject to one year’s experience, for Chartered Membership of the CIPD.
